Line stop is a method used either with a mechanical plug or an inflatable plug that temporarily stops all substance flow within a section of the pipe. This allows for alterations and additional works to be carried out at the pipeline, without system shutdown. The prequel of pipeline stop is hot tap where the opening of the hot tap allows plug head (mechanical & inflatable) to be inserted.

Mechanical Line Stop

Mechanical line stop method is used when the pipe medium flow in high-pressure, high temperatureand in bigger pipe sizes. Mechanical plug head uses high tensile metal plug with EPDM rubber stopper whichstops the flow and allow repair works without system shutdown.

Inflatable Line Stop

Inflatable line stop method is used when the operating pressure is lower than 7 bar (100 psi). The inflatable materials have double protection of nylon reinforced urethane. Its ballistic external materials protect the inflatable stopper from the unfavorable internal conditions of the pipe. The hot tap opening requires for inflatable line stop is also smaller; therefore it added economical value to adopt this service.
